Although best known for their role as the primary starfighter of Naboo, the Royal Naboo N1 Starfighter was eventually seen as a valuable antique across the galaxy. Because of this, it was kept by some long after its prime, however, most of those people either used or acquired their N1’s in less than repeatable ways.
This custom ship pack adds six new Royal Naboo N1 Starfighter pilots to the game across both the Rebel and Scum factions (there will be Book Of Boba Fett spoilers, so you are warned!).
The Pilots:
The Mandalorian:
As seen in the last episode of The Mandalor… sorry I mean Book Of Boba Fett, Din Djarin got a wizard new ride in the form of an N1 Starfighter, that was then tricked out by Peli and her droids.
To reflect his new need for speed, Din’s ability is similar to his one in the upcoming Razor Crest, as he needs to be in multiple enemy ships arcs to activate the ability, but he gains an additional boost to his speed instead changing dice results.
As Din flies a heavily modified N1 he will not only have access to a talent but also gain an illicit and modification slot to show this, however it is at the cost of his sensor slot to balance this out.
Leia Organa:
Shortly after the Battle Of Endor, Leia went on a mission to Naboo to open talks to bring it in as a part of the New Republic. Unfortunately, after her arrival, Naboo was targeted as a part of Operation Cinder with satellites being used to cause destructive weather patterns across the planet. Leia went up as a part of a three starfighter defence group to save the planet and she eventually drew the fire of a tie and saved another of the pilots lives. This is reflected in her ability while also retaining her normally strengths in X-Wing at helping allies get around stress tokens. Although aware of her force powers, Leia is still not trained at this point, so she will stick with just a talent slot here for now.
Leema Kai:
Although we already have Kai as a pilot in X-Wing, his only appearance is in an N1 during the Battlefront 2 campaign, so its fitting to have him here. His N1 was heavily modified to allow him to drop Seismic Charges. Because of this, his ability is based on his N1’s devices, with him being able to cause enemy ships near his detonating bombs to either take more damage or be crippled with doubling up on one of their red tokens, making stressed opponents fear his explosive repercussions. Like Din, he gains access to an illicit and modification slot instead of his sensor slot, but his biggest advantage is the payload slot he has instead of a torpedo slot.
Shara Bey:
The mother of Poe Dameron, Shara was Leia’s pilot during the mission to Naboo, and even took command of the princess as she was the more experienced pilot of the two (although their already established initiatives say otherwise…).
Shara’s abilities here, like her A-Wing and ARC-170 abilities, work around target locks. She makes use of a Passive Sensor-like ability which lets her gain a lock before she engages as long as she spends an evade token. However, N1’s find getting evades much easier than most ships, so she can easily end up with a focus and lock each round!
Like all the other pilots in this pack, Shara has access to a talent slot.
Zander Freemaker:
I bet you never expected this pilot! A character for the surprisingly fun Lego Freemaker Adventures, Zander was an engineer for his family business and later the Rebellion, but dreamed about being a hotshot pilot. While working independently, Zander “borrowed” a customer’s N1 and took it for a joy ride before becoming captured by the Empire.
His ability reflects his skills as an engineer and a reckless daredevil pilot.
Like the other scum pilots in this pack, Zander has different upgrade options to most N1s. He swaps out his sensor slot for a pair of modification slots, again to show off his engineering skills.
Sosha Soruna:
The final pilot in this pack, and the final pilot of the group protecting Naboo from the empire, Soruna was the Queen of Naboo at the time of the Battle of Endor, and the person Leia and Shara where going to meet. Little is known of her, except that she was trained as a pilot before she became queen and that she was willing to put herself at risk for her people.
Her ability shows this, letting her give another friendly ship an evade token after they spend one, at the cost of one of her own green tokens.
This is especially useful for the Shara Bey pilot in this pack, but she can easily make use of it herself to have two evade tokens per round.
The Upgrades:
Din Djarin’s Hot Rod:
The main reason I made this pack, Din’s new starfighter looks absolutely amazing! This title upgrade allows you to push your N1 to the limit with a strong SLAM action. When equipped to Din this is even more powerful as you can go much faster without becoming stressed. It also gives Grogu a little seat instead of the astromech slot. I got a few comments on my first reveal of this upgrade about how it should increase its firepower and agility and add a crew slot. However, I feel adding all those things makes it far too powerful and its not shown on screen yet (also you may be able to fit a person in the bubble, but I can’t imagine them being any use cramped back there!).
R5-D4:
The once Rebel astromech who eventually sacrificed their shot at a loving “family” with Luke and Uncle Owen by blowing their own motivator. I’m so glad R5 was eventually picked up by such a lovely person like Peli. R5’s ability shows his sacrifice by letting him damage himself to draw away allies' red tokens to help them survive.
BD Unit:
I have to confess, I’ve not yet played Jedi Fallen Order, and that's why I’ve not made anything for it. I may just watch a playthrough so I can soon. However, despite the lack connection, I was still ecstatic to see a BD unit in the latest episode of the Book Of Boba Fett, so here is a generic BD Unit. Its build as an explorer’s aid made its ability easy to choose and design, even though it's similar to both Qi’ra and Collision Detector. This upgrade is also a split type upgrade allowing it to be equipped as either an astromech or a crew.
Hanger 3-5’s Repairs:
As Peli was the one to introduce Din to his new ship, it feels fitting that she could be the one to prep his N1 before a dogfight. Unfortunately when you use Pit Droids as a maintenance crew, you never know what level of repairs (or damage) you’ll get. This upgrade lets you risk starting the game critically damaged in the hope of gaining two additional hull at the start.
There is a:
- 3 in 8 chance of starting the game with two extra hull.
- 2 in 8 chance of starting the game with two extra hull but you are also damaged.
- 2 in 8 chance of starting the game with two extra hull but you are also critically damaged.
- 1 in 8 chance of starting the game critically damaged.
The Conclusion:
I’ve long thought about making a N1 card pack as we’ve known of Leia, Shara and Sosha’s battle for almost as long as the new cannon has been around, however Kai’s existence complicated it for me as I wanted to give him a card as well, but couldn't think of any other N1 pilots to give Scum their fill of pilots too.
The Book Of Boba Fett episode five changed that with Din’s amazing new hot rod! I cant wait to see how his new N1 flies in both the BOBF and the Mando season three, but no matter what, I think its just a matter of time before we get both Rebel and Scum N1s officially!
